H1N1 flu and seasonal flu remain rare in Minnesota

The latest flu statistics from the Minnesota Department of Health show H1N1 infections remain rare in the state and the seasonal flu season still hasn't picked up steam.

The Health Department reported Wednesday that there were no new deaths attributed to the flu, no new hospitalizations and only one outbreak of influenza-like illnesses in schools.

Historically, the seasonal flu season hits hardest from the middle of February through March. But so far this year in Minnesota, seasonal flu infections have been no more than sporadic.

Nonetheless, the Health Departments cautions a third wave of H1N1 flu infections is possible and urges residents to get vaccinated against both kinds of flu.
