Hecker relative, linked to case, attempts suicide

The family of Denny Hecker's former father-in-law say he is in critical condition after what police call a suicide attempt.

Bill Prohofsky was accused in a lawsuit last week of helping the disgraced auto mogul hide about $81,000 during his bankruptcy. He is being treated Thursday at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.

That's after police in the Minneapolis suburb of Medina found him with a gunshot wound after they were called to a vacant office building shortly before midnight Wednesday.

Police Chief Ed Belland says evidence at the scene showed Prohofsky shot himself.

The statement from Prohofsky's family calls him a beloved father, grandfather, brother and uncle and says his loved ones are mourning and in shock.
