School bus driver suspended after alleged drunk driving

A school bus driver has been suspended from his job after being arrested for allegedly driving the bus while drunk.

Tony Taschner, spokesman for the Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan School District, said school officials are investigating the incident in which the driver hit a parked motor home on Monday afternoon while transporting seven Eagan High School students.

None of the students was hurt in the incident. Police smelled alcohol on the driver's breath and conducted a field sobriety test, said Danielle Anselment, a spokeswoman for the Eagan Police Department.

The 61-year-old driver failed the test and was arrested. His blood alcohol level was tested but results won't be available for several weeks, Anselment said.

State law says a school bus driver must have a commercial driver's license. That license can be revoked if the driver is found to have any alcohol in his or her system during an incident.
