Whistleblower law could extend to state workers

A law that protects Minnesota employees who report wrongdoing could extend to guard state government workers.

A bill sponsored by Democratic Rep. Diane Loeffler was slated for a House committee hearing Tuesday.

The legislation would add whistleblower protection for government employees who report misconduct at the state level. That could include possible misdeeds by those in the state Legislature or executive branch.

Current state law prohibits discrimination or punishment against private sector employees who in good faith report wrongdoing by an employer.
