Bovey man accused of bringing knives to court

A Bovey man is accused of bringing knives and a can of Mace into court in Grand Rapids and trying to pull a knife on a sheriff's deputy.

Fifty-five-year-old Patrick Dean Loucks was charged Wednesday with assault, obstructing the legal process and possession of a dangerous weapon in a courthouse.

The complaint says a deputy bailiff saw a knife sheath attached to the lapel of Loucks' jacket when Loucks was in court Tuesday on an unrelated matter.

The bailiff asked Loucks to leave the courtroom. While in the hallway, the suspect allegedly reached for the knife's handle and came toward the deputy. The officer drew a gun and ordered Loucks to the floor.

A search found Loucks was carrying two more knives and Mace. He's in the Itasca County Jail.
