A Hennepin County jail sergeant is receiving the sheriff department's highest award for his act of courage.
Sgt. Brad Laudert will receive the Medal of Valor during a ceremony Thursday.
The sheriff's office says that after a house exploded in his Minneapolis neighborhood on Sept. 12, Laudert helped rescue a girl trapped by a collapsed ceiling.
The girl, 10-year-old Olivia Schuller, was briefly hospitalized with a lacerated liver after her bedroom ceiling fell. At the time, media reports said an unidentified rescued the girl.
Laudert is among several other deputies and citizens being honored by Sheriff Rich Stanek at a ceremony Thursday night.
