Duluth ecumenical center blesses shipping season

A Christian ministry that tends to spiritual needs of visitors to Duluth's port is celebrating the start of the city's 2010 commercial shipping season with a "blessing of the port community."

The Seafarers Center's open house, port blessing and fellowship meeting is Tuesday afternoon at their headquarters on the shore of Lake Superior in Duluth. the public is invited to join mariners and port workers and their families at the event.

The Twin Ports Ministry to Seafarers was established in 1969 as an ecumenical ministry for the thousands of men, women and children who visit the area on ships every year. Its Seafarers Center offers access to Christian clergy as well as recreation, donated clothing, transportation around the city and other services.

Duluth's 2010 shipping season officially started over the past weekend.
