The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board is removing 15 trees infested with emerald ash borer and another 25 suspected of being infested with the invasive beetle.
The trees are in Tower Hill Park in southeast Minneapolis. They are the first confirmed cases in Minneapolis, but the park is within a mile of the St. Paul park that saw the first Twin Cities infestation last May.
Emerald ash borer has already killed more than 40 million ash trees nationwide and in Canada. The beetle's larvae tunnels into the wood of ash trees and feeds on the inner bark.
