Fargo public works official fired over contract rules

The head of operations at the Fargo Public Works Department has been dismissed for allegedly violating the city's policy on awarding contracts.

The city says in a new release that Al Weigel, director of operations for the Public Works Department, circumvented city policy. The city says he violated the rule that any purchase over $25,000 be publicly solicited through bids or requests for proposals.

No other details were immediately available.

Weigel did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
