Remembering George Marshall, architect of the Marshall Plan

George C. Marshall
Gen. George C. Marshall was Secretary of State after World War II, and in that capacity he led the effort to rebuild Europe after the war. Marshall was also a military leader, Chief of Staff of the Army and the third Secretary of Defense.

On April 3, 1948, President Harry Truman signed legislation launching the Marshall Plan, a plan to rebuild Europe after World War II. Historian Mark Skoler discusses soldier and diplomat General George Marshall, who sold a war-weary America on that plan.
