St. Paul city attorney resigns to run for county post

St. Paul City Attorney John Choi is resigning after four years on the job to focus on his campaign for Ramsey County attorney.

The city announced on Tuesday that Choi's last day on the job would be April 16.

Mayor Chris Coleman praised Choi, particularly his efforts to reduce gang violence, streamline prosecution of domestic violence and address widespread housing foreclosures.

Choi's office was also at the center of prosecuting protesters during the 2008 Republican National Convention.

The current Ramsey County attorney, Susan Gaertner, is running for governor. She has announced that she's not seeking another term as county attorney.
