Detroit Lakes woman killed by train

Authorities say a 35-year-old woman has been struck and killed by a train at the Amtrak station in Detroit Lakes.

The Forum of Fargo reports the Detroit Lakes woman was hit by a Burlington Northern Sante Fe train about 10:40 a.m. Tuesday as she was returning to the depot from a tobacco store.

Detroit Lakes Police Chief Kel Keena says witnesses said the train was blowing its whistle, but it appears the woman thought she could make it across the tracks in time.

The woman was not immediately identified.
