Mpls. man found guilty in fatal beating
A jury has found a Minneapolis man guilty of second-degree murder in connection with last summer's fatal beating in south Minneapolis.
The jury delivered its verdict Thursday afternoon, finding that Franklin Anthony Chosa, 26, killed Carlos Trevino, Jr. during an argument on July 25.
Chosa's cousin, Jeffrey Robert Chosa, has also been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the incident. His trial will begin in June.
A witness told police that Trevino and another man knocked on the door of a south Minneapolis apartment on July 25 and asked to purchase alcohol, according to the criminal complaint.
An argument broke out when the cousins collected $20 from the two victims, but did not provide the alcohol, according to the witness. The witness said the two men beat Trevino to death with their fists. Trevino died of blunt force trauma to the head.
Franklin Chosa will be sentenced at a later date.
