Bon Jovi spends 2 hours at Minn. homeless shelter

Jon Bon Jovi spent two hours at a homeless shelter in downtown Minneapolis, part of the rock star's efforts to encourage more people to volunteer.

Bon Jovi visited People Serving People on Thursday before his sold-out show in St. Paul.

The rocker has been encouraging fans nationwide to volunteer and get involved in their communities. He says he went to the shelter to show how serious he is about volunteerism.

He says he's not just a celebrity but also a dad and a responsible citizen who wants to make sure he participates in life.

Bon Jovi described his visit as a fact-finding mission for the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation. The foundation works to tackle homelessness by building affordable housing, establishing community kitchens and cleaning up vacant lots in blighted neighborhoods.
