Former President Jimmy Carter plans visit to Twin Cities
Former President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn plan to visit the Twin Cities in October as part of a Habitat for Humanity project.
Details on the Carters' visit will be released at a news conference on Tuesday, but officials with the Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity say the project will take place Oct. 4-8. It will involve building, renovating and repairing 20 homes in north Minneapolis and St. Paul's East Side.
Officials noted that both neighborhoods have been hit hard by the foreclosure crisis and economic downturn.
The Carters participate in a weeklong work project each year somewhere around the world in support of Habitat for Humanity.
Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak and St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman will join Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity for Tuesday's news conference.
