Gophers linebacker Tinsley charged with felonies

University of Minnesota junior linebacker Gary Tinsley has been charged with two felony counts of fleeing police and three misdemeanors including driving while intoxicated.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports Tuesday that the charges stem from a Sunday morning chase on a moped and on foot in Minneapolis. Police captured Tinsley after he allegedly drove a mo-ped the wrong way down a one-way street, then tried to flee on foot.

The 20-year-old Jacksonville, Florida native was cited by University police in late September for underage drinking and fleeing police on foot. The Gophers did not suspend him after that incident.

Gophers athletics director Joel Maturi says he's disappointed but wants to gather all the facts before deciding how to respond. A current phone number for Tinsley could not be found.
