Mpls. will activate tornado sirens twice on Thursday

The city of Minneapolis will activate its tornado sirens on Thursday for an annual severe weather drill.

The sirens will go off at 1:45 p.m. and 6:55 p.m.

State officials have also scheduled a statewide tornado drill at 1:45 p.m. Officials say the drill will allow homeowners, schools, businesses, hospitals and other organizations to practice their emergency plans.

A tornado touched down in south Minneapolis last August. The storm damaged homes, toppled trees, and took many residents by surprise.
