An aviation program at Minnesota State, Mankato, will keep flying, for now.

A group of businesses and private donors has come up with about $600,000 to keep the program going for three years.

But there are stipulations. The program will spend the next three years in probation. During that time it will have to recruit enough students to make the program self-sustaining.

According to The Free Press of Mankato, MSU President Richard Davenport says the program was losing about $400,000 a year - the equivalent of four faculty.

The program now has about 120 students. Aviation was targeted for possible elimination because of its high cost and relatively low enrollment.
