Twins ticket prices rise for Minn. student group

A group of southern Minnesota elementary students heading to a Twins game at the new Target Field had to pay much more for their tickets this year.

Crossing guard and student council members at Neveln Elementary in Austin spend a school day watching a ballgame every season. But the students' tickets this year ran up to 77 percent more than last year, when the Twins played at the Metrodome.

Students and their families pay for their own tickets. This year, the 69 students bound for Wednesday's game had to pay $22 per ticket. Last year's rate was $5.

Principal Dewey Schara tells the Austin Daily Herald the new ballpark's ticket prices are squeezing parents.

Twins spokesman Kevin Smith says Target Field doesn't have as many inexpensive seats as the Metrodome.
