St. Paul teen pleads guilty to killing dad

A St. Paul teenager has pleaded guilty to one charge of unintentional second-degree murder in the shooting death of his father.

The Ramsey County attorney's office says 18-year-old Aramis Diamante-Sanitano Gaither pleaded guilty Thursday and will be sentenced in July.

According to a criminal complaint, Aramis Gaither shot and killed his 45-year-old father, Anthony Gaither, on Feb. 13 shortly after a heated argument between Anthony Gaither and his wife. Authorities say they arrived to find Anthony Gaither lying on the front stairs with multiple gunshot wounds to his back.

The complaint says Aramis Gaither told investigators he blacked out as he was firing the gun, and believed that if he didn't shoot his father, his father would have shot him.
