Freeman: Victims of ex-police chief come forward

Hennepin County prosecutors say 17 alleged victims of sexual abuse by a former Minneapolis Park Police chief are prepared to testify against him.

They allege many of the 17 were abused while William Jacobs worked at YMCA Camp Warren in Eveleth in the 1960s and early '70s.

A court filing Friday says the other incidents date from 1962 to 1980. He's also accused of improper conduct while he was a teacher at Blake and Breck schools in the '70s.

It's too late to charge Jacobs for those incidents, but prosecutors hope to use them as evidence when the 66-year-old goes on trial in October for allegedly molesting a 15-year-old boy more recently.

Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman asks other victims to call the sheriff's hotline at 763-525-6216.

Jacobs' attorney, Joe Friedberg, declined to comment.
