The new chancellor for the University of
Minnesota-Duluth has been picked by system President Robert
Bruininks, pending approval of the Board of Regents.


      He's Lynn Black, currently the vice president for academic
affairs and provost at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Ga.

      Bruininks says Black has a record of leading strategic planning
efforts and building trusting relationships with faculty, staff and
students.

      Kennesaw State President Daniel Papp praises Black as both an
academic leader and a fine human being.

      Black's appointment is effective Aug. 1, pending the regent's
approval on Friday. Black would succeed Chancellor Kathryn Martin,
who retires July 31.
