Minn. students sample 24 languages at U of Minn.
More than 1,000 Minnesota high schools are expected sample more than 20 languages at the University of Minnesota for the seventh annual World Languages Day on Tuesday.
The students will take 40-minute miniclasses in 24 of the 40 languages taught at the university.
Among the class titles are "Swahili: Beyond Hakuna Matata"; "Delices de France" (Delicacies of France); "The Korean Alphabet in 40 Minutes"; and "How Many Ways Could a Roman Stick Out His Tongue?"
The university says in a news release that the idea is to expose the students to languages they won't learn in high school. The university says the classes are taught through games, songs, jokes and even food.
The event is organized by the College of Liberal Arts' Language Center.
