Austin man accused of threatening census worker

A rural Austin man is facing charges after he allegedly threatened to shoot a census worker.

The Austin Daily Herald reports that a female census employee visited the 60-year-old man's residence around 9 p.m. Friday. She complied when he ordered her off his property, but then he allegedly followed her to a neighbor's house and said he would shoot her if she did not leave his property.

Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi says the man fought with deputies when they arrived to question him that night. He said he had never spoken to a census employee.

The man is in custody pending charges of making terroristic threats and resisting arrest.
