Man get 11 years in death of brother's girlfriend

An Anoka man who pleaded guilty to beating his brother's girlfriend to death with a baseball bat, and staging a motorcycle crash to cover it up, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison.

Thirty-three year-old Timothy Boland pleaded guilty earlier to one count of first-degree manslaughter for the death of Natasha Leigh Waalen. Wednesday's 11-year sentence was the maximum Boland could receive.

Waalen's body was found with her motorcycle on an Andover road in September 2008. The Anoka County medical examiner determined her injuries were not consistent with an accident. She died of multiple blows to the head, and had defensive wounds on the back of each hand.

Boland's brother, Ryan, pleaded guilty in December to helping stage the crash. He's awaiting sentencing.
