St. Paul software company cutting up to 200 jobs

A St. Paul software company has announced plans to cut between 150 and 200 positions worldwide.Lawson Software employs about 800 people in downtown St. Paul.

Company officials say they are still working to determine which positions and geographical locations will see job cuts, but a spokesman says most of the layoffs will come from operations in Europe.

Lawson spokesman Joe Thornton says the company plans to begin notifying affected employees starting next month.

"And it will extend a little ways into the summer just because there are some procedural items that take some time on this kind of action in Europe so it will be over the course of the next two to three months," Thornton said.

The cuts represent less than 5 percent of Lawson's workforce and are expected to save the company up to $17 million annually.
