Minn. woman wants to return medal to Wis. family

A Minnesota woman is renewing her efforts to return a Purple Heart medal to the family of a late Wisconsin veteran.

Jean Ferdinande of Shoreview says she found the medal while cleaning out her garage about seven years ago. It's inscribed with the name of Herman J. Burg.

Military records list him as a World War II veteran from Wisconsin's Fond du Lac County. He's also listed in an honor roll of the county's war dead.

Ferdinande has had no luck finding Burg's relatives. She says his descendants can e-mail her at ferdinande39(at)msn.com to get it back.

She tells The Reporter of Fond du Lac an ex-boyfriend may have left the medal in her garage. She doesn't know how he would have gotten it.

The Purple Heart is awarded to U.S. troops who are wounded in combat.
