Richfield: Pickin' party at the strip mall music shop
Bluegrass, country, Cajun, Celtic, and Tejano music might not be the first thing you think of when you see the strip mall located near W 66th Street and Penn Ave S, but that's what you'll find at the Homestead Pickin' Parlor.
Marv and Dawn Menzl are the owners. They have been following their passion for over 30 years. The couple opened the Homestead Pickin' Parlor in 1979, and the shop has become a clubhouse for all things folk music related. You can pick up CDs, LPs, sheet music and all types of noise makers.
They have a staff of 20 instructors for music lessons, and they sell a variety of acoustic, stringed instruments.
Since the beginning though, one thing has remained constant: the jam sessions. The shop hosts jams five nights a week. Even if you're not a player, you're free to come by and watch.
