Contract approval expected tonight for new Mpls. supt.
The Minneapolis School Board is expected to approve a contract Tuesday night for the district's new superintendent.
Bernadeia Johnson was named Minneapolis superintendent in January but won't officially take over until July 1. She's replacing Bill Green, who's leaving to returning to his teaching job at Augsburg College.
Johnson's three-year deal will pay her $190,000 a year. That base salary is $10,000 more than is being paid to St. Paul's new superintendent, Valeria Silva. Silva's contract was approved in December.
Johnson can also get a yearly bonus of as much as $30,000 if she meets three goals the school board will establish.
Other benefits for Johnson include health insurance, a $4,800 yearly car allowance and the ability to cash out a maximum of 28 days' vacation when she leaves.
