Lanes reopen after fatal crash on I-94 in Woodbury

A fatal crash on Interstate 94 in Woodbury this morning caused traffic to back up for miles, but authorities said lanes have since reopened.

State Patrol Lt. Eric Roeske said the crash happened at about 6:18 a.m. when a car traveling westbound crossed the median and hit a car traveling eastbound. One person was killed and two were injured.

The crash caused several lanes to close near County Road 17, but Roeske said they have since reopened. However, he said a few emergency vehicles were still in the area of the crash and may be causing a "gawker's slowdown."

Roeske described the two injuries as "serious" but he said he didn't know whether they were life-threatening.

Investigators are trying to determine why the car crossed the median.

"It's another tragic fatality and we're certainly going to investigate it and see if there's anything we can learn from it so we can prevent it from happening again," Roeske said.
