A Maplewood police officer who was injured in the ambush that killed North St. Paul Officer Richard Crittenden is being honored by a veterans group for her service.
The Military Order of the Purple Heart is presenting an award Monday to Officer Julie Olson.
Olson was injured Sept. 7, 2009 when she and Crittenden were ambushed by a suspect at a North St. Paul apartment. The suspect, 34-year-old Devon Dockery, took Crittenden's gun and shot him in the head, killing him.
Olson was injured when she and Dockery exchanged gunfire. Dockery was killed.
Olson will receive the National Law Enforcement Officer Citation plaque during Monday night's Maplewood City Council meeting.
