The Winona County Sheriff's Department has released some findings in a crash that killed three teens in April.
Sheriff Dave Brand says 16-year-old Shauna Marie Ruhoff tried to pass a pickup truck driven by a 17-year-old Lewiston-Altura classmate on County Road 27 near Altura, when she lost control on the gravel shoulder.
She then overcompensated, sending her pickup swerving across two lanes. She then hit the back of the other pickup before her pickup rolled in the ditch. Investigators estimate Ruhoff was driving 90 miles an hour. She died as did 14-year-old Katie Lee Hornberg and 13-year-old Morgan Elizabeth Zeller. Twelve-year-old Cydney Maker suffered serious injuries.
The county attorney is reviewing the file. Brand made no recommendation on whether prosecutors should file charges.
