Marines swim Gull Lake to raise $10K

Three Marine officers and a Marine mother swam a 12-mile relay in Gull Lake to raise $10,000 for injured Marines.

The swim took five hours Thursday, with swimmers leaving from Cragun's north beach to reach Bar Harbor because of the strong prevailing wind. They returned to Cragun's Conference and Golf Resort near Brainerd.

The Marine swimmers - from Camp Pendleton, Calif. - included Brainerd native Lt. Col. Bill McCollough and Maj. Matt Danner and Capt. Travis Onischuk. Deb Roberts, a long-distance swimmer from Nisswa and mother of a Marine, also swam.

The Brainerd Daily Dispatch reported they were trying to raise $10,000 for the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund. ---
