New drug fad illegal in ND, not in Minnesota

Fargo police say they've arrested or sought charges against at least a dozen people in the past two months for possessing synthetic drugs that mimic the high produced by marijuana.

The chemically enhanced incense that sells under a host of names is legal in Minnesota but not in North Dakota, where the state Board of Pharmacy endorsed restrictions in February.

Some Fargo residents are going to Moorhead to get fake pot. Moorhead Police Lt. Brad Penas says he'd like to see Minnesota follow the lead of North Dakota and a growing number of states who are banning it.

Minnesota Board of Pharmacy Executive Director Cody Wiberg says he'll probably have the board start working to get the marijuana substitutes classified as controlled substances. But the rules are different in Minnesota and it might require legislation.
