Controversial art piece returned to Bemidji walkway
A questionable art sculpture removed from a northern Minnesota community will be returned to its spot along a downtown walkway following protests of artistic censorship.
"Gaea" is one of 10 beaver sculptures displayed throughout the city of Bemidji. City Manager John Chattin removed the sculpture last week after some expressed concerns that the painted art piece showed a portion of the female anatomy.
Its creator, Deborah Davis, says her painted sculpture shows Mother Earth praying with roses coming from her hands.
The Bemidji Pioneer reports the City Council voted Tuesday night at packed meeting to return the art piece to the Bemidji Sculpture Walk.
