Names of officers who shot man in Cottage Grove released

Authorities have released the names of the four officers from the Washington County Special Response Team who shot and killed a man in Cottage Grove this week.

The state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the death of Jeffrey Lee Clausen, 33, of St. Paul Park.

BCA officials said Friday that three of the officers were from the Woodbury Police Department and the other was from the Cottage Grove Police Department.

Woodbury officers Chris Donahoe, Jeff Gort and Chris Ployhart and Cottage Grove officer Matt Foucault all remain on paid administrative leave during the investigation.

The BCA said the incident happened as the Washington County Special Response Team investigated a felony weapons case. Clausen was riding in a car with two others when police stopped their vehicle and approached it with guns drawn.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested, but authorities have said the officers shot Clausen after he repeatedly failed to follow their commands. Another male passenger was shot and injured in the incident. His name hasn't been released.
