Significant weekend road closures planned for the metro area

Significant road closures are planned for this weekend in and around Minneapolis.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation will close eastbound I-94 at 10 p.m. Friday night for repaving of the stretch from Highway 280 to downtown St. Paul.

At the same time Friday evening, both directions of Interstate 94 between I-35W and I-394 will close for a separate construction project. The freeway lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.

On Saturday, the City of Minneapolis is closing the parkway along Minnehaha Creek between Lake Harriet and Lake Nokomis for the Lifetime Fitness triathlon from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Streets that will remain open to allow traffic to cross the parkway include Nicollet and Hiawatha Avenues.

In the north metro, motorists may experience delays during the next two weekends as crews resurface a stretch of westbound Highway 10 in Blaine and Mounds View.

Drivers are urged to plan ahead and allow extra time to reach their destinations.

CheckMnDOT's map for detailed information about road closures and detours.
