Tougher charges filed in sister slaying case

Two brothers accused of killing their sister in Clearwater County are facing tougher charges.

Todd and Troy Martin of Bagley have been charged with second-degree murder in the death of 31-year-old Leisa Martin. She went missing Oct. 28, 1998. Her body was found three days later by hunters in neighboring Mahnomen County.

The brothers had been charged with aiding and abetting manslaughter in the second degree. Prosecutor Jeanine Brand says under the murder charges, the Martins are accused of unintentionally causing their sister's death while holding her against her will.

The Grand Forks Herald reports Todd Martin allegedly confessed to the murder when he was arrested for drunken driving in January. An autopsy determined Leisa Martin had been asphyxiated.
