Lake of the Isles drowning victim named

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner has identified the man who drowned in Lake of the Isles on Friday morning.

Twenty-six-year-old Minneapolis resident Daniel Gulbrandson apparently drowned while swimming with friends sometime before 5 a.m.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that authorities recovered Gulbrandson's body at 9:30 a.m.

Gulbrandson had been swimming with three friends sometime before 5 a.m. Authorities said the group was swimming from the shore to the island, but Gulbrandson told his friends he didn't want to swim to the island and said he would return to shore.

The friends returned to shore later and couldn't find him. They called 911, and the sheriff's department's dive team conducted a search.

They found Gulbrandson about 60 feet from shore in 7 feet of water.

Authorities said the incident is still under investigation.
