Minnesota crops continue to develop ahead
of average despite a stormy week.

Department of Agriculture said Monday that small grains are
ripening at a rapid pace.


      Spring wheat was 67 percent ripened as of Sunday, compared with
13 percent last year and 34 percent for the five-year average. Two
percent of the barley and 6 percent of the oats have been
harvested.


      Crop conditions generally have improved. Corn is rated in 55
percent good and 35 percent excellent condition, while soybeans are
59 percent good and 25 percent in excellent condition.


      Statewide 5.2 days were rated suitable for fieldwork, the
highest average since May 30. Temperatures were nearly 1 degree
above normal statewide.
