Minneapolis beach closed due to E. coli

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board has closed the beach at Lake Hiawatha Park after finding too much E. coli bacteria in the water.

KARE-TV reports that officials say the high bacterial levels are typical at Lake Hiawatha after storms wash runoff into Minnehaha Creek, which then flows into the lake.

The beach is expected to reopen on July 28.

The 11 other Minneapolis' beaches remain open, including two beaches at Lake Nokomis Park, which are within a mile of Lake Hiawatha.
