Vandalism costs Barnesville man $100,000 plus

Authorities are investigating three acts of major property damage in three Clay County locations against a man from rural Barnesville.

Clay County Sheriff Bill Bergquist tells The Forum of Fargo, N.D., that the losses will easily surpass $100,000.

It started Wednesday morning when deputies were called to the home of a 66-year-old Barnesville man who reported his car was stolen; it was later found smoldering in a ditch.

Later Wednesday, the man reported a tractor had been used to damage a gravel truck, skid loaders and other construction equipment he owned at another location in the area.

Then on Thursday, police received a report that a van owned by the man was hit by a truck in rural Barnesville.

Bergquist says all three incidents probably happened Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.
