Brother charged in 2005 double homicide in Minneapolis

Second-degree murder charges were filed Monday against the brother of one of two men shot and killed in Minneapolis in 2005.

Carlos Heard, 40, also known as Carlos Plair Clark, accidentally shot his brother as the two tried to confront another man about swindling them out of money for a concert promotion, according to the criminal complaint filed in Hennepin County District Court.

As Heard went after Leroy Kennedy III, his brother, Jermaine Isaac Heard, tried to stop him. Carlos Heard shot his brother and then went after Kennedy, shooting and killing him.

According to court documents, police spoke with three people with knowledge of the dispute between the Heards and Kennedy. Jermaine Heard had paid Kennedy to promote a concert, but requested that the money be returned when the concert did not happen.

One of the people told police Carlos Heard admitted to accidentally shooting his brother.

Carlos Heard was arrested last week about three miles north of where the shooting occurred in Jun 2005. He is being held in the Hennepin County jail and is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Tuesday.
