Parts of Duluth swamped by flash flooding

Residents of some Duluth neighborhoods are cleaning up this morning after flash flooding swept through in the late night and early morning.

The Duluth News Tribune reports torrential downpours struck right around midnight Saturday into Sunday. A number of cars in the western part of the city were submerged to their hoods in low-lying spots and had to be removed later Sunday by tow trucks.

The paper reports there was also flash flooding in the nearby town of Proctor. A spotter for the National Weather Service reported almost 4.5 inches of rain between about 10 p.m. and 12:20 a.m. in west Duluth.
