St Paul Police are searching for a driver that officials said struck a pedestrian intentionally on University Avenue.
Police spokesman Andy Skoogman said the man hit Saturday, Danny Wright, 55, died at Regions Hospital last night.
"The victim Mr. Wright was walking down University Avenue and the suspect drove up along side of him," Skoogman said. "The suspect shouted at Mr. Wright, and as Mr. Wright moved into the parking lot of the Union Gospel Mission the suspect ran down Mr. Wright and then took off."
Skoogman said Wright lived at the Union Gospel Mission homeless shelter for some period of time.
"It's a very unfortunate, tragic and senseless and heartless crime -- this is a man who was simply walking back to where he lived and he was run down for no apparent reason," he said.
He said witnesses describe the driver as an adult male with a two door dark green or blue vehicle, likely with front end damage.
Police are asking anyone who sees the car to call authorities.
