Incumbents prevail in AG, Sec of State primaries

Incumbent DFLers in the attorney general's race and the secretary of state's race easily won their primary contests.

Attorney general:

Lori Swanson overwhelmingly defeated her opponent, Leo Meyer, by an 86-14 percent margin with 84 percent of precincts reporting. On the Republican side, Chris Barden defeated Sharon Anderson by a margin of 55 to 45 percent. Bill Dahn, an Independence Party candidate, is also in the race.

Secretary of State:

Secretary of State Mark Ritchie defeated his DFL primary challenger, Dick Franson, by an overwhelming margin of 82-18 percent, with more than 80 percent of precincts reporting. He will face two candidates in the November general election -- Republican Dan "Doc" Severson and IP candidate Jual Carlson.
