Pawlenty to attend funeral of Minnesota airman

Gov. Tim Pawlenty will attend a funeral Saturday in northern Minnesota for a National Guard major killed in the crash of a military cargo plane in Alaska.

Michael Freyholtz, 34, was one of four airmen who died when their plane crashed shortly after taking off on a training mission for an air show at Elmendorf Air Force Base July 28.

Freyholtz's funeral will be at Blackduck High School, where he graduated in 1994. He joined the Air Force in 1998 after graduating from the ROTC program at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He had been serving with the Alaska Air National Guard since 2007.

The governor has ordered that all U.S. and Minnesota flags be flown at half-staff at all state and federal buildings from sunrise until sunset Saturday in honor of Freyholtz.
