Wis. candidates back Minn. tax reciprocity deal
The three main candidates for governor in Wisconsin say they would support reinstating a tax reciprocity agreement with Minnesota.
Republican Scott Walker brought up the issue Tuesday during a campaign stop in Hudson near the Minnesota border. Walker said current Democratic Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle didn't fight to maintain the deal.
But it was Republican Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty who dropped the agreement in 2009 as a way to help get taxes owed into Minnesota faster to deal with a budget shortfall. Until last year, Minnesota and Wisconsin allowed taxpayers who worked in the other state to file a single income tax return, and the two states reimbursed each other later.
Walker's GOP challenger Mark Neumann and Democrat Tom Barrett also say they support reciprocity.
