Three beach advisories lifted in Duluth, one added

Officials have lifted advisories that had been in place at three Duluth beaches after new tests showed bacteria levels were back within normal range.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency had issued the advisories Friday for Leif Erikson Park Beach, Park Point New Duluth Boat Club and Hearding Island Canal Beach.

Meanwhile, the MPCA added an advisory to the Lakewalk East/16th Avenue East Beach because of elevated E. coli levels detected on Monday. The heightened bacteria levels might be caused by fecal contamination.

A contractor for the MPCA resumed testing Lake Superior beaches last week. The beaches weren't being tested earlier in the summer as the agency worked out an agreement with the contractor.
