Baggage area partially evacuated at Mpls. airport

A section of the baggage claim area at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was briefly evacuated after three bags were left unattended.

Airport spokesman Pat Hogan says the bags were apparently abandoned by a woman who traveled to Philadelphia on Monday. He says it's not clear why she left them.

He says the lack of official luggage tags with bar codes indicated they had not been checked in. Hogan says Transportation Security Agency agents were expected to question the woman in Philadelphia on Monday evening.

Hogan says the bags were found about 12:30 p.m. and a section of the baggage claim area was shut down for about 45 minutes. The Bloomington Bomb Squad removed the bags, which were found to be harmless.

No flights were affected.

He declined to name the woman or her airline because the matter was under investigation. (Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
